A Good Life

Do you like my new look?

A long time ago when I started this blog I was all about frugal living. I still am but how many times can you say "I don't spend a lot of money?"

Many of the frugal things I do because I like them. Not because I have to. (And perhaps doing them has enabled me not to "have" to if you know what I mean.) I like sitting by the lake or growing my own food.

Since I started working this summer some of these things have fallen by the wayside and I miss them. Not because I'm working too much, but because I'm using the days that I'm home to go and do family things. Baking bread falls down the list a little.  I'm moving it back up the list for my own well being though.

I also spend a lot of time thinking about how to have a "good" life. Not THE Good Life (Though I am a creature of comfort.)  Lately I've been having a midlife crisis of sorts (I haven't bought a sports car yet don't worry.) I spent most of 38 pondering my fear of 40 and beyond and that pretty much sucked.  Thus, I've spent a lot of time thinking about what constitutes a good life. I mean that's all it really boils down to isn't it? Living a good, happy life. There are a million ways to do that. Your ways probably differ from mine. Sometimes they probably cross over.

I intend to spend most of 39 pondering the design of my good life.

My new banner has 4 things that I consider essential to a good life.

My daughter for -Friends & Family
A house at the museum for -Meaningful Things To Do
A column from my house for-The Comforts of Home
One of my Hydrangea for-Nature

Mostly a good life for me constitutes of these things. So does responsible financial decisions and (I'm adding this one since I need to work on it) good health. Because thus far I have been blessed with good health, I rarely pay attention to it  (& I really need to work on getting some sleep, I'm way too much of a night owl.) I also don't take vitamins and need to pay real attention in order to get my allotted fruits & veggies in. That's my new project.

But I digress. My blog is about my personal search for a good life.

Please note, the danger of blogging (or blog reading) is that you see only one side of a person, the side they want you to see. A few years back in the bloggy world there was a trend of people having a "real life" day and showing you their unmade face in the morning or their dirty kitchens or their kid's scruffy shoes, just to keep it real. I don't want to write about those things, show you myself without makeup or ask you to look at a dirty toilet. But it's all there. I'm not all self actualized, I don't have all of the answers, I'm not always happy. If I go some time without blogging its usually because I have nothing nice to say.(and it's probably better not to get myself started saying not nice things.)   This is just the little piece of myself that I choose to share with the world.

I love the new look! I really think the banner speaks volumes about you.

It must be that time of year, because Marty and I have spent a lot of time lately discussing what we want our lives to be, what life means to us, etc. Of course... maybe the fact that he will be 40 next year might have something to do with it, too. :D We plan to spend the next few years defining our "good life" and making sure we live it daily.

Thanks Krista. It just started out as some nice pictures I took and then I determined it should have some meaning other than looking nice.

Oh that dreaded 40! Though my husband just turned 40 with a big birthday party and a heck of a lot of grace about it so it can be done I suppose. ;-). I hated the idea of 40. I'm hoping by next year I'm a little more comfortable with it.

I think for us, because he is a teacher and this time of year is always the start of a "new" year,(probably for you too with the homeschooling) and since I have a birthday now it feels like a good time to reevaluate. I like Stella's idea of having a theme for the year to focus on. I've always admired that about her.

It's really beautiful!! I love the colors & the photos. (By the way, I have been trying to figure out how to get my photos onto my blog template, so can you tell me how you did it?)

I am also going through a reevaluation myself. I'm about to turn 30 in a few months & I think these milestones always remind us to take stock of where we are & where we're going.

I look forward to hearing more about the new definitions of you & your good life!

I used http://www.picnik.com for the banner. It was VERY easy. If you can blog you can use this template. My friend Karley over at Chicandgreendaily.com pointed them out to me.

Raven I LOVED turning 30. Simply loved it. Went to a spa, had a big party, felt like I had the world at my feet. I'm hoping 40 feels the same by the time I get there. 30 felt full of promise to me. good luck with it! I love your blog BTW.

I adore the new look and theme. I love how your blogging is always evolving.

It makes me happy to read that you're looking for the Good in life which includes doing more for your body but please don't let that little number 40 bring you down. You look amazing, you feel good, you're enjoying a dream job and of course your wonderful family so embrace the extra years of knowledge you gained from 30 to 40 (39 I know...)

Awww.... Thanks Kristin... I appreciate that! I may be hitting you up for a flower water soon! I hear you hooked Deanna up again! You know, if I kick this 40 thing then perhaps by 50 I'll be one of those beautiful wise women you always hear about..

LOL! Hey, I showed my face without makeup...you could have at least showed us your toothless grin or your dirty toilet :)

And, Christine, "A Good Life" is fab. I will be blogging about it next week.

Would you like to still do your guest post sometime before school starts? If so, let me know!

Ha Karley,

You look WAY better without makeup than I do without a tooth!!! I didn't even show my husband! I'd much rather show my dirty toilets, which are almost as scary!

Glad you like the theme! And I would love to do a guest blog post before school. I'll email you offline with an idea I have!

We'll have to chat about vacations!
