Mushrooms!
Yesterday I went to my local mom and pop grocery store for a few items. Imagine my surprise when I saw the cleaned and sliced mushrooms were on sale for $.08 a lb!! Yup! They were cleaned and packaged and not even going bad. (The store is closed today and the cashier told me they would be starting to turn before they opened again on Wed.)
Anyway, I bought 6lbs of mushrooms for $0.48!!! Can you believe it! What did I do with 6 lbs of mushrooms you ask! Well last night I made mushroom soup that we had for lunch today. I saved some for tomorrow's lunch and froze the rest. Right now I have a mushroom barley soup simmering that I will freeze for us and will serve next week when my aunt comes over. We are also having sauteed mushrooms as a side dish this evening and I am thinking I will be making a mushroom and cheese quiche for breakfast tomorrow!
Everything I am making I have used what I have on hand so my $0.48 cent deal didn't end up costing me anything more in additional ingredients!

Oh darn, you should have called us, I would have sent my husband right over! ;) While HE would not appreciate the 6lbs of mushrooms, I would have, and once again I am irritated with myself that I am not constantly following you around to catch the great deals -- like the dish soap one from a few years back, and all the great stuff you find on the curb!! You'd better watch out, I may start stalking you! :)
Yes, I did think that if I was Drew's wife that he would be in some kind of mushroom hell right about now!
You can follow me around anytime! There is always enough to go around. (and a girl can only bring home so many large pieces of furniture!)
The same time I found the mushrooms I found those buckets of wings in the refrigerator section that were marked $1.99 from $6.99 (same reason as the mushrooms) they also had a $.55 coupon on them which they doubled at the register. They turned out to be $.89 a bucket! Will thought I was crazy when I came home with 6!! (for the freezer) But we sometimes do wings for a movie night so those will come in handy. (It will probably take us a while to go through all 6 buckets but I could not pass them up. I swear, Herramas has the best sale prices. ) It was only $5.34 for 6lbs of wings. Regular price for those would have been $42!!!
I want to be a stalker too! Great find on both the mushrooms and wings.
This is probably the first time anyone has wanted to stalk someone over their cheapness!! He he!!
I think those mushrooms were the best deal I ever got! I made some of your barley soup and told Emma "Remember the Kristin and Micheal Soup, this is it!" She ate a big bowl and asked for more!
Ack! I spent $8.99/lb for mushrooms this week!
You can always dehydrate them too!
Now THAT is something I had not thought of!
