Dishwasher Duel Rematch- Target Brand Dishwasher Detergent

Last summer, I wrote about my ongoing quest to find a dishwasher detergent that worked for me. I happened upon Cascade Complete which I love. When I researched this on consumer reports, I also noticed that the Target brand dishwasher detergent scored high as well and was considered a best buy.

Since then I haven't been near Target when I needed detergent. By a happy coincidence 2 days before Christmas I was at Target and remembered that I needed some and also remembered the Consumer Reports write up! I picked it up and used it all through the holidays. I used it for a 20 person party on Christmas Eve.-No problem. Also, because we were not home all the time I would sometimes only run the dishwasher every 2 days. It worked like a charm and was $2.99 for a box (roughly half of the cost of Cascade.) I have to say, it worked almost as well as Cascade. Certainly good enough for me.

I will still buy Cascade if I'm out and not going to Target ($3 is not something I'll make an extra trip over) but hopefully the next time you're in Target and need dishwasher detergent you'll consider the store brand!

This is good to know.

We didn't have a dishwasher for years, so when we moved here I was clueless. I asked around and everyone said not to use powder... which killed me because it is so much cheaper than the gel stuff.

I am going to check the Target powder out.

This is my first dishwasher EVER! We never had one growing up and my first home didn't have one either.

I wonder why they said no powder-I've used both and can't see much difference.

I think that the common theory is that powdered soap leaves film or poweder, or something on your dishes. But it probably just depends on how good the dishwasher soap is! Thanks for sharing, I'll have to try this! 'Course, my husband will have to get it, because Target is dangerous for me to go into -- he once suggested that we get baby food there, because Gerber was $ .10 cheaper than at our grocery store, although to save $ .10 per baby food container, I would probably spend another $50 on things I just "have to have!"

Yes, I do have a nice dishwasher. Perhaps the target brand doesn't do that and that is why it got high scores!

Seriously, like I said, I would not go out of my way for the $3 savings unless I was already in target. Just as you said, save $3 and spend $30. I'm cheap and Target is a spending trigger for me!!! (Probably because I love their clearance items!)

This is really good to know, because I use Cascade exclusively, yet there's a Target very near by my house which I stop in frequently.

I'm actually thinking that the next time I'm in target I'm going to buy another box so I don't need to run in when I'm almost out!
