Green Smoothies!

I've been hearing a lot about green smoothies lately.

I'll admit, I had my doubts about this. I mean, I just don't typically drink things that are green! (heck, I even use yellow split peas for my split pea soup because I think it looks better!) I like green food, I just don't DRINK it.

Anyway, Monday of this week I jumped on the bandwagon. It was surprisingly good! As I was having one, my daughter walked into the room and asked for some! She loved it! We've had 3 green smoothies this week. Today we had them with a blueberry muffin and a hard boiled egg for a nice lunch.

My smoothies this week all consisted of:

1 banana
Some cut up mango
Some cut up apple
About 3/4 cup baby spinach
Some water to get it all blended together. Today I used crushed ice.

Whirl it around your blender until it looks like the picture. The banana helps mellow out the spinach taste. The possibilities are endless. I'm going to try another recipe next week-This was all I had on hand this week for a smoothie.

Trust me-This was good! And my girl and I each had 5 different fruits and veggies for lunch today!

Where did you find this recipe? I'll have to see what else you come up with before I venture out, but I think it's great that your DD enjoyed the green smoothy.

I'll have to look. I found it on a raw food blog but when I went back to look for more green smoothie recipes they were not there so I don't remember but I'll be looking for some more soon! This was a great way to get some spinach into my girl!

Hmmm. I wonder if there's a way of making this low carb...

Well you could probably make it low (lower) carb with berries. The orig recipe calls for only water because it's a raw food recipe and since most of those people don't use dairy any kind of milk is out. So hence the banana to make it creamy. But you could use a scoop of that protein whey powder (forget what it is called but Will uses it for smoothies sometimes.)

I would try the powder, some water, berries of your choice and a few leaves of spinach at a time. You might need to use a low carb sweetener of some sort because without the banana it might be a bit strong. Let me know if you try it!

You should see some of these smoothies-they use Kale and Collards even! I started with spinach because I already like that.
