Take a Look at My Knobs!

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist the title!

When we moved into our house last year I made a slide show of about 100 pictures of the house (I only sent it to people who would appreciate that kind of detail or at least not tell me I was boring them to death!) When Deanna's husband saw it he said something like "Please tell Chrissy I loved looking at all of the pictures of her knobs!"

Anyway, here is another picture of my knobs. These are not the knobs from last year though-These are my new improved knobs! These are knobs that I trash picked today! (Can you even stand it!)

While Michael was over today cutting a piece of wood to fit the seat of a bench that I trash picked last week, I noticed a huge pile of stuff over at my neighbors house. On closer inspection I found 2 1/2 antique beds and a mirror and while I was making Michael help cart those over to the house my neighbor brought out a door with these beautiful knobs attached to it! Micheal pulled out a screwdriver and popped these babies off the door for me! (and then very nicely installed them on my closet and bathroom doors in the front foyer)

So now, not only do I have my own husband doing my dirty work and carting things off the street, I also have my friend's husband helping as well. I'm sure he's sorry he stopped by!

So, the frugal tips for today are a) you can find great stuff for free if you just keep your eyes open, and b) if you show people your knobs you can also get cheap labor? ;) Sorry -- couldn't resist!

Oh, and my husband enjoyed the pictures of your knobs much better than the 10 pictures of a china cabinet that my cousin-in-law e-mailed us!

Anyway, great finds -- I swear you and my aunt must have the garbage gods on your side -- I never see anyone throwing anything interesting out!!

I love doorknobs like this. My great grandma used to have them in her house and they always seemed very elegant to me.

Here in Maryland, you can't leave your furniture-type trash on the curb. The garbage men won't take it unless you make a special appointment to pay them money to cart it away. You have to haul it to the dump yourself.

So treasure your ability to garbage pick while you can!

Well you'll have to show Drew these pictures of my knobs. I swear I can't stop saying that.... It's all Drew's fault!

And yes, cheap labor is priceless-A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.

It's a good thing your aunt and I don't live in the same town, we would be seriously cutting down our stash of garbage!

Yes, these doorknobs are so beautiful-Now I'll have to be on the lookout for more!

It did occur to me yesterday that glass door knobs are a bit impractical but I guess that points to an earlier age when people actually polished the doorknobs still.

Wow, the dump must be a treasure trove in MD! The next time I visit I should bring a U-Haul!

I am very jealous. I would love those knobs. My grandma had knobs like that. Just writing these sentences is making me blush. :)

Really great find! I have some nice Door Handles, but nothing like these gems. I want them!

I know! I can't walk by without looking at my new knobs! I had some nice ones before too, but nothing like these! I think I'm going to be on the lookout for more new knobs!

Eww! First, I don't think they would let you in there. Secondly, you would pick up some terrible disease :P Come to Maryland any time, but leave your Uhaul at home. :P

Not let me in! Boy your dump employees in MD sure have it good. They can sort through all the garbage that no one else can get to!

You're home! Can't wait to hear about your vacation!
