Seriously Stupid Mascara
This morning I got an email from Walgreens announcing what I think has to be the worst idea in makeup in years, if ever.
Mabelline has just introduced a vibrating mascara wand. High-end beauty brands such as Estée Lauder, Lancôme and Prescriptives have all released vibrating mascaras in the past year as well.
The cost of this ecological disgrace is $15. Despite the fact that I would be hard pressed to pay $15 for a drugstore brand mascara, I have to wonder at the little battery impeded into the wand. How pray tell does one get that out? My guess is that you don't. My guess is that we'll now be throwing countless little batteries into landfills all in the name of eyelashes.
Is that truly how we want to spend our resources? On eyelashes??? Mine look pretty darn good and I use my hand to apply my own mascara as has every woman in the world up until the past year.

LOL. I *completely* agree with you! Vibrating mascara is ridculous. I think I'll stick with my Physicians Formula Organic Wear!
$15 for Maybelline? NO THANK YOU!
Yeah the $15 price tag was the first thing I couldn't get over!
The funny thing is that this mascara is currently being promoted by the Walmart 11 moms and other bloggers. It is kind of funny to see an honest take on a useless product!
That is seriously wrong! I don't want anything vibrating near my eye. I'm clumsy. That sounds like blindness waiting to happen.
Thanks Meredith! From what I understand about those 11 Walmart bloggers is that their aim is to discuss money saving ideas. How $15 mascara fits that bill I really can't imagine!!! ;-)
Stella! I didn't even think of that! Can you imagine the mishaps possible with a moving item near your eye!! It gets better and better!
I completely agree with Stephanie on the concern over blinding yourself with this vibrating mascara brush!!! That was my first concern! It made me think of those times that we have been late getting to some event and my husband is driving and I am trying to apply mascara in the passenger seat's vanity mirror, all the while thinking that he is going to stop short and I am going to impale myself with this little mascara wand...
I don't understand the appeal of this product.
As if trying to keep a steady hand while applying make-up were not difficult enough, now they are going to have it automatically jiggle?
I have bad eyelashes, so I'm always trying new brands, and I always end up returning to the $5 pink and green classic. I am in good company too--Carmandy on What Not to Wear also uses this mascara on her clients.
Like fear factor makeup edition. Next it will be flaming lip liner!
That pink & green one is a old favorite of a lot of people, although I could never really make it work for me. I've yet to find one I think I just can't live without!
"Like fear factor makeup edition. Next it will be flaming lip liner! "
LOL!
As the Spanish would say, de acuerdo!
